Movie Review: X Men Apocalypse
For the end of the trilogy
This doesn't feel like one
But for what it worth,
This is Bryan Singer's ultimate love letter to the X Men franchise
The Singerverse trilogy is rather strange for me
Simply because yes, it's meant to be a trilogy
But at the sametime you can enjoy it as three separate movies
& there isn't many other trilogy that you can say the same about

The Singerverse trilogy is rather strange for me
Simply because yes, it's meant to be a trilogy
But at the sametime you can enjoy it as three separate movies
& there isn't many other trilogy that you can say the same about
PLOT:
Set 10 years after the event of Days Of Future Past,
The world first mutant Apocalypse has awaken from a near 300 years sleep
Apocalypse assemble a new set of 4 Horsemen (Magneto, Psylock, Storm & Angel)
Vowing to take back the control of the world from the human
It's up to the X Men to stop him & save the world from the hands of Apocalypse
Thoughts:
The movie started rather slow for the first half an hour
The first half of the movie really suffers from building up new characters
& setting up the rest of the movie
But once you're able to get through that, the movie begins to improve massively
X Men movies isn't known for the big fight sequence
But director Bryan Singer really brings out the big guns in my mind for this one
The mind game between Xavier & Apocalypse was very "physical"
The origin of Cyclops & the birth or tease of Jean Gray's Phoenix personal
The struggle of Magneto
The new origin of Weapon X--Wolverine
There's so many comic book storylines in this movie but it doesn't feel crowded
Because it's all make sense for the movie itself
& therefore it doesn't feel out of place
Unlike Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice where everything just felt forced
So kudos to Bryan Singer for able to pull this off in a rather surprinsingly good way
There's honestly not really much to talk about other than that
The movie was good for what it was, not too over the top yet couldn't be considered as epic can't miss movie as well
It's a very typical Bryan Singer's X Men movie, don't go in with too much expectation & you will leave with satisfaction
For me, it's a good movie with pieces of surprise & easter eggs for the fans
I certainly left the cinema rather surprised by just how good the movie was
The Bad:
For a big budget CGI film, some of the cgi wasn't great & was at time cringe worthy (notably the background of the cairo scene where Apocalyspe & his 4 horsemen forces Xavier to send out his message to the rest of the world)
Mystique being set up as the hero & leader of the X Men when she wasn't a big part of the X Men team in the comic, I have no problem with them changing it up but the fact that they build her up as this superhero or idol of the mutants race just kind of left a bad taste in my mouth, it's obvious that it's only because of Jennifer Lawrance that her character becomes who it become & it just feel going a step too far for me to have her become the mentor of the next generation of X Men when she's supposed to be one of their many villians
Jubilee, for the hype & excitement of the character...she is one of the biggest fails of the movie, she was just here & there without much lines, you don't even get to see her showcase her mutant power & ultimately she just become a complete afterthought of the movie
The Good:
Quicksilver, if you love his Days Of Future Past scene you will go insane for his mind blowing scene in this movie,it truly is one of the coolest scene you will ever see in a movie
Psylock, for her small limited role in this film, her character really leave me wanting for more. Unlike Jubilee, althought she wasn't given much lines in the movie but her action scene really speaks louder than words, for the first live action appearence of the character it was very memorable & impressive.
Pacing, the pace of the movie started slow but as the plot gets deepen the pace really improves massively along with the movie & considered how much story they covered in this movie, most scene & story doesn't felt force or out of place & since they're also using this movie to set up to future films, it's very impressive how they're able to pull off without taking the attention off the movie itself
About Magneto:
I have a specially mixed feeling towards Magneto, his character doesn't seem to be able to catch a break
Happiness doesn't seems to rhyme with his name
I first have doubts about his character & the way the director & writers uses this character, how they need to constantly reminds us about his troubled past
At first I was like I get it we all get it, Magneto's mother was killed in cold blood in front of him, there's no need to constantly remind us about it & it really felt like they're trying to shove his backstory down our throat with each movie
But after given a further thoughts, I kind of understand now why they did what they did to the character, sometime there's just some memories & some thing that we can never get past or moved on from & it's up to us to face it for the rest of our life.
The story of Magneto is a tragic tale, but it's also a story about redemption, him constantly fighting against his own demon, sometime he failed & his demons & hate took over yet sometime he'll overcome it...his story & character it's to me what life is all about, we all will have our darkest hours in life & it's up to us to deal with it, we may lose some but along the way as long as we don't give up, we'll gain some as well. That's what make Magneto so mixed for me, & that's why for me he truly was one of the biggest star of the entire trilogy as we're able to witness his evolution through the trilogy.
