Review: Captain America: Civil War
Conflict, Avenge, Family
Three words that define Captain America: Civil War
Conflict of idea regarding the Sokovia Accords
Captain America reasoning of freedom to choose & his concern of signing the
accords could mean them being controlled by a group of committees that have
uncertain agenda that in the future could put the world & Avengers at risk by
altering their mind & thus stripping them of the right that made them the
Avengers in the first place & that's saving people that needs saving, not just
the lives that the comittees deems worthy
While Iron Man's perspective was that the Avengers can still do their job &
would even argue they could do a better job under government's supervision,
this would help decrease the numbers of lives that would have been lost
everytime the Avengers try to save the world & they ended up got caught in the
crossfire as victims
Avenging your family
Baron Zemo the big bad of this movie has an agenda & that very agenda it's some
what similar to why Iron Man fights Captain America & Bucky in the climax fight
scene of the movie- to avenge their fallen family
For Baron, he lost his family during the event of Avengers Age Of Ultron
He blames the Avengers for the death of his family
Through discovering the encrypted files of Hydra that Black Widow released to
the public during the ending of Captain America: Winter Soldier, he discovers
the big secret that would turn the two leaders of the Avengers against each other
& thus Baron began his plan of sabotaging the relationship of the Avengers
Family, be that your blood family or the ones you choose
At the climax of the movie, Baron Zemo revealed the one big secret that was
kept from Iron Man by Captain America this whole time, the fact that
Iron Man himself, Tony Stark's parents was murdered
in cold blood by his then brain washed best friend Bucky Barnes
tying back to the Winter Soldier film where Arnim Zola revealed the truth
behind the death of Howard Stark & his wife to Captain America & Black Widow
thus starting off the ultimate battle for revenge, Baron Zemo got his wishes
through Tony Stark who is seeking revenge for his blood family while Captain
America tries to save his friend who he also considered as family
These three elements blended in perfectly it's what makes this movie awesome
Tribute & logical changes to the movie
Some scenes from the movie was taken straight from the comics like the scene
where the mother accused Tony Stark for the death of her son, that was a nice
tribute to the comic while some changes made to the movie for example
the Stamford incident was changed to the Lagos incident & Scarlet Witch along
with Crossbone was the cause of the tragic bombing rather than the original New
Warrior & Nitro was some what acceptable & logical as well as the
introduction of Black Panther & the reason behind why he joined the war & Team
Iron Man was brilliant as well
Flaws
No movie is perfect & so is this one, once again the bad guy failed to grab any
attention...Crossbone was poorly used & now dead while Baron Zemo seems to be
more of a plot device than character
I swear everytime he's in the scene I tuned out, I just simply don't care about
him or the whole subplot about finding the rest of the Winter Soldiers
I guess his motive for ploting the Avengers against each other kinda makes sense
But still, without him manipulating the Avengers into going war against each
other I felt the Sokovia Accords alone will already be enough for them to
fight among themselves so at least to me, he seems unnecessary
The Fanboys
On to Spider-Man, how do I feel about the long awaited intro of Spidey into the
MCU?
I LOVED IT! his intro is one of the many scenes that got me popped up from my
seat, yeah it's weird that he's living in a condo like apartment with his hot
Aunt May which is also weird to be saying that, it's still cool & actually
makes sense if you just imagine him swinging in & out from that condo
Him fanboying Tony Stark, wanting to impress Stark at almost every turn
It's so comic accurate it's bringing joy out of me
Speaking of fanboy, Spidey wasn't the only one fanboying around in this movie
How funny & irony that Ant Man was also doing the same with Captain America
The two most inexperienced hero are the ones providing comedy relieve
to this otherwise "dark" & serious tone of the movie
Ant Man's scene when he become Giant Man was to quote Spidey, spectacular
Although he moves rather slow but you can still feel his power & impact when
the tiny superhero suddenly became the biggest man alive during the airport scene
Airport Scene
Now about that airport scene, 15mints of pure IMAX goodness & gold
The little things they do to keep some element of surprise from the fans
Be that their intention or not was pure genius
I don't know if they either cut out Spidey from the trailer or simply edited
him into the final product, whoever does that deserve major props
It was during that fight scene that for me felt like the true introduction of
The most comic accurate Spider-Man EVER!
The kid just won't shut up yet still doing his job kicking ass against all the
others Avengers, his exchange of words with Cap was gold
You know at that scene that even if they're on opposite side, Spidey still won
over Cap's respect
It was also during that airport scene that we witnessed the tragedy that war
brings...the fall of War Machine, his near death experience really was a nice
way to stop the fight & for the rest of the Avengers be that Team Iron Man or
Team Captain America to think twice about if they really want to go to war
At least it's miles better than ending the fight with "Martha"。。。
Aftermath
Rhodey now finds himself recovering from a severe spine injury while Bucky is
back into his frozen state in Wakanda under the protection of Black Panther
while Tony is having second thoughts about the Sokovia Accords,
Captain America rescued the rest of Team Captain America (Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Falcon & Ant Man) & is now on the run from the government as fugitives
Meanwhile Spider-Man with help from Tony Stark is about to swing his way into
his own journey. Finally, is the Avengers no more? well rest assured
Because if Captain America's last dialogue in the film to Tony Stark was to be
any indication, he's always just a phone call away, so rest assured that the
next time Steve Rogers appears, he's bringing the rest of the Avengers with him
as well!
Final Thoughts
My final thoughts being, this film does a great job of tying up the previous
film while moving forward the plot & planning seeds for future films.
It certainly lived up to the hype even if in my humble opinion, I still like Winter Soldier more because of the major plot twist effect that film brings to the whole of MCU while Civil War don't get me wrong, did delivered as one of the best comic book movie ever made but for me just doesn't seems to cause as much impact as the previous film.& for that, this film gets
8/10
2 Points deduct for the poor use of Baron Zemo
